DVSA MOT Special Notice Alert: Is Your Class 4 MOT Bay Future-Ready?

The requirements for Class 4 MOT testing are changing. The DVSA issued Special Notice 04/25, which details the required updates to jacking equipment standards for new test bays and those changing jacking beams, effective April 1, 2026.

These updates are crucial for ensuring your bay can safely accommodate the growing fleet of heavier electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid vehicles.

Key Changes You Need to Know

Increased Capacity: Jacking equipment must now have a minimum Safe Working Load (SWL) of 2 tonnes (2000kg).

Extended Reach: The distance between the centre of the lifting pads must be at least 1,700mm.

Why the Change? The wider stance and heavier battery packs of modern vehicles demand more robust and spacious lifting equipment to ensure correct and safe inspection.

Action Required: If you are planning to open a new test centre, change ownership, add a test lane, or upgrade your equipment, your application submitted on or after April 1, 2026, must meet these new standards.

Don’t wait until the deadline! We are ready today with a full range of compliant jacking beams that meet and exceed the new 2.0t SWL and 1,700mm pad distance requirements.

Future-proof your business, maintain compliance, and keep your technicians safe.
